SacWorldFest: spotlight on Africa, a set on Flickr.
SacWorldFest: Sacramento World Music and Dance Festival, October 6th and 7th 2012Saturday evening, spotlight on Africa! First, Jodama drum and dance (jodama.org/), then Nawale Washington, Historian, followed by more drum and dance, this time from Fenix (www.fenixdrumanddance.com/), and then Bendu Washington, storyteller. Headlining were H'sao, from Chad, now resident in Montreal, Canada (see www.flickr.com/photos/alisontoon/sets/72157631718228030/ for the H'sao photos)
What I learned: drumming makes you happy (or... happy people drum) (or both!)... I want to dance too... more about Africa and its many countries and peoples and riches and sorrows... and the reason why you always find Spider sticking to the wall up in the corner (and if you want to know the story of Spider, you will have to ask Bendu Washington to tell you the story, because she does it so wonderfully-well!)
Great show. While there was a great crowd, both inside and outside the fence, would love to see many more people there next year--I'll be reminding you all, in advance
