Killswitch Engage, the Incarnate tour, and a full metal house

Thursday evening in Sacramento, and the doors open at 5.30 p.m. Despite the early after-work hour, the venue is filling rapidly for the sold-out Killswitch Engage show, Openers Toothgrinder from New Jersey quickly have the crowd in motion and a mosh pit quickly develops, along with a path to the water dispenser closest to the action.

Up next: 36 Crazyfists, from Alaska, and they drove the temperature up and up. They've been around the metalcore scene for a while, and they know how to get the crowd going. Really intense, and fun, set from 36 Crazyfists.

Main support, Memphis May Fire, from Dallas, Texas, showing why they have rapidly become very popular. Huge energy and great stage presence, and the crowd is going insane. The guy with the red t-shirt has crowd-surfed into the pit at least twice already, and Killswitch Engage haven't even taken the stage, yet.

And then they do: Killswitch Engage, in smoke and fog and searchlights and violently-bright strobes, and wow, what a show!!! First time in Sacramento for several years: I think the last time was at Sleeptrain Amphitheater, out in Wheatland, in 2009. The show is intense, it's superb, it's crazy, and it's so very well received by the packed-to-the-gills crowd at the Ace of Spades. Playing songs from the new album, Incarnate, and heading to a final crescendo with The End Of Heartbreak, My Curse, and In Due Time, Killswitch Engage showed what makes a metal concert so memorable.

People were singing in the streets on their way back to their cars, wrung with sweat, giddy with the music. What a concert, what a night!

Don't miss this tour! All dates can be found here.
